• Introduction: The Coronavirus Nucleocapsid (N) protein is essential for viral RNA synthesis and possesses RNA chaperone activity facilitating template switching. As the most abundant viral protein, N protein packages the positive-strand viral genome into a helical ribonucleocapsid (RNP). It plays a fundamental role in virion assembly via interactions with the viral genome and membrane protein M. Additionally, it enhances the efficiency of subgenomic viral RNA transcription and replication. Due to its high sequence conservation and strong immunogenicity, N protein is a preferred diagnostic target.
