• Introduction: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of respiratory illness in infants and the elderly. The RSV G protein, a glycosylated membrane protein, contains a central conserved domain (CCD) with a CX3C chemokine motif facilitating attachment to CX3CR1-expressing cells. G protein initiates infection by binding to heparan sulfate on host cells. The secreted form of G protein acts as an antigen decoy and modulates immune responses via Fcgamma receptor interaction, contributing to viral immune evasion. Uniquely among paramyxoviruses, RSV G lacks hemagglutinating and neuraminidase activities.
