| Introduction: | Influenza B viruses (IBV) circulate globally alongside Influenza A viruses (IAV), causing significant annual epidemics. Neuraminidase (NA), a critical target for therapeutics and vaccines, is the second most abundant surface glycoprotein after HA (5-10 fold less). NA forms a tetrameric membrane glycoprotein composed of four identical monomers with a catalytic head, stalk, transmembrane domain, and cytoplasmic tail. While HA mediates viral attachment and entry, NA cleaves sialic acids to release progeny virions from host cells and prevents viral aggregation, thereby facilitating viral spread. |
