• Introduction: Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2), members of the Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily, are significant human pathogens causing severe infections, particularly in immunocompromised hosts and infants. The viral envelope contains at least seven glycoproteins (gB, gC, gD, gE, gG, gH, gI). Glycoprotein B (gB) is essential for viral entry; it cooperates with the gH/gL complex for entry into fibroblasts and with the PC complex for entry into endothelial and epithelial cells.
