• Introduction: The HIV-1 p24 protein performs complex orchestrated tasks during viral assembly, budding, maturation, and infection. During assembly, p24 forms associations that drive the budding of immature virions. As the major capsid protein, Gag p24 is utilized in HIV-1 vaccine clinical trials due to its high sequence conservation across isolates. The recombinant HIV-1 p24 protein, fused with a C-terminal His-tag, is purified via conventional chromatography.
