• Introduction: The Coronavirus Nucleocapsid (N) protein is essential for viral RNA synthesis and possesses RNA chaperone activity that may facilitate template switching. As the most abundant viral protein, N protein packages the positive-strand viral genome into a helical ribonucleocapsid (RNP). It plays a fundamental role in virion assembly through interactions with the viral genome and membrane protein M. Furthermore, it enhances the efficiency of subgenomic viral RNA transcription and viral replication. Due to its sequence conservation and strong immunogenicity, the coronavirus N protein is a preferred target for diagnostic applications.
