Product Name:  Recombinant 2019-nCoV S Protein RBD-SD1 (C-mFc)
Description:  Recombinant SARS-CoV-2 S protein RBD Protein is produced by a Mammalian expression system. The target gene encoding Arg319-Pro589 is expressed with a C-terminal mouse IgG1 Fc tag.
Molecular Weight:  57kDa
Introduction:  The coronavirus spike (S) glycoprotein is critical for viral attachment to host cells at the beginning of the infection process, notably in severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The SARS-CoV S glycoprotein alone can mediate membrane fusion necessary for viral entry and cell fusion. It serves as a major immunogen and target for entry inhibitors. Studies indicate that 2019-nCoV infects human respiratory epithelial cells by interacting with the human ACE2 receptor. The S protein is a large type I transmembrane protein composed of S1 and S2 subunits. S1 contains the receptor-binding domain (RBD) for recognizing cell surface receptors, while S2 contains elements required for membrane fusion. The S protein plays a key role in eliciting neutralizing antibodies, T-cell responses, and protective immunity.
