Proteins are an important part of normal body function and exist in many different categories, and the body naturally makes many proteins that also play different specific roles in the body. For certain diseases, the delivery of a protein with a biological effect into the body may have a beneficial effect on the patient, and this type of protein is known as a therapeutic protein.

Most therapeutic proteins are derived from genetically modified animal or microbial cells, and scientists can identify genes encoding specific proteins in humans and then transfer the target genes into the animal or microbial cells to obtain many therapeutic proteins of non-natural origin.

In contrast, natural products, which are metabolites synthesized by natural organisms in the course of their life activities, are used to treat a wide range of major diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, malignancies, immune diseases, and infectious diseases. Compared with chemically synthesized therapeutic protein drugs, natural therapeutic protein drugs have obvious advantages in terms of structural novelty, biocompatibility, and functional diversity, and have been naturally selected and optimized during long-term evolution.

An overview of intricate association of natural compounds and proteostasis Figure 1. An overview of intricate association of natural compounds and proteostasis machinery (Arun, U., 2021).

Human proteins exist in human sources or may exist in animals with similar proteins. Of course, proteins obtained from plants and animals, and other natural sources may also have different medicinal values because they can regulate many cellular proteins and affect some relevant signaling pathways. The main sources of these proteins with great medicinal value include bacterial or fungal isolates, extracts from marine animals or plants, and a few specific mammalian tissue secretions. Levels of therapeutic proteins from natural sources are usually low, for example, the common insulin is a natural human therapeutic protein that plays a critical role in regulating blood sugar.

All naturally sourced therapeutic proteins offered by Creative BioMart are formulated to be stable and retain their full activity, and there are hundreds of natural therapeutic proteins for which product information has not been updated and are not listed in the website's product catalog at this time. Therefore, if you do not see the natural therapeutic protein product you need on our website (including products from any source and in any size package), please contact us in the first instance. Of course, in addition to inquiries about available products, you can submit information about any of your product needs with our staff, and we will give you a satisfactory answer at the first opportunity.
